Planting a Garden That is All Your Own
Have you always wanted to plant your own garden but aren’t sure how to start it? Have you ever brought home a flower from the store and thought “I wish I could grow a bunch of these”? How often do you buy fruits and vegetables and think to yourself “I should grow my own produce because it will taste better and save me money”? Have you ever thought about starting an herb garden to save money? How often do you look at your current living space and wonder where your garden should go? The good news is that you can start a garden pretty much anywhere-even indoors! Here are some tips to help you begin.
Don’t let your plants totally dry out. While it is true that some plants thrive in dry soil conditions that does not mean that they can go without being watered at all. Every single seedling you grow is going to need to be watered. You don’t have to make mud out of your dirt but at least a little moisture is needed if you want your seedlings to live. How much water you provide to your plants is going to depend upon which types of plants you are trying to raise in your garden. Learn the amount of water they need and how often they need it before you plant your seedlings. Drying out and drowning are both bad. Prepare to be in the sun a lot while enjoying your new hobby. put on a pair of reading sunglasses. Good gardening means having patience. It takes a long time before the plants send up shoots and you can see your hard work literally come to life–you’ll just have to be patient while you wait for that to happen. The only way to skip over having to wait for this to pass is to buy your plants already blooming from a gardening department or nursery. If you do not want to spend any money on “already grown” plants, get used to the idea of being patient and doing a lot of work while waiting to see the results of your labor. Don’t freak out if it takes a long time (weeks or months) before you start to see any real topsoil activity from your plants.
Start small. You probably envision having an entire yard that is full of plants that are blooming. If you’ve never grown your own garden before, you’ll want to start with a plant or two. When you do this you won’t have to worry if you put a lot of work into something that ends up not interesting you. You need time, commitment and patience if you want to be a gardener. Would you agree to marry someone that you hadn’t ever had a first date with? If you’ve never grown a single bean before, why would you dedicate your entire yard to a vegetable garden? A lot of people like to use reading glasses that can help while gardening. Gardening is a great way to have fun outdoors as an adult. Lots of people use working in the garden as a way to work their way through a lot of the tension and stress they feel in their daily lives. Other people say that they love to work in the garden because it is just fun. Some people garden because they like being able to save money that would have been spent on veggies and fruits by growing their own. There are lots of reasons you should start your own garden. Just remember: while gardening is lots of work it is also lots of fun!
